"Knowledge can best be given where there is eagerness to learn, so this is the period when the seed of everything can be sown, the child's mind being like a fertile field, ready to receive what will germinate into knowledge."
— Dr. Maria Montessori
From their earliest days at Skinner Elementary Montessori, our students are exposed to the idea that the talents each of them possess are special and should be nurtured, shared and treated with care. Skinner is committed to touching both the heart and the mind of every student. We teach our students to have respect for all living and non-living things and help them understand that they always have a choice. We show them that each person is solely responsible for his or her actions and the consequences that ensue—whether positive or negative.
Skinner is also committed to offering an academic program comprised of high expectation that is tempered with love and respect for the differences in each student's learning ability. Positive reinforcement is used to modify impolite behavior. Responsibilities are assigned to students to help them realize the importance of their own role in the learning environment and to instill confidence in their own capabilities.
Finally, there is a strong commitment to the parents of our students. Only by working together will the child be able to realize his or her emotional and academic potential. We welcome and encourage parent participation in the classrooms and on field trips.
